The vitality of the not-for-profit and community sector is crucial to both the Australian economy and the welfare of our society. Beyond the good work this sector delivers in our communities, the not-for-profit sector in Australia also makes a significant  contribution to the economy, in fact an Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) report estimates that in 2006–7 the sector contributed approximately $43 billion to gross domestic product (GDP) and employed around 890,000 people.

With this in mind, Catholic Earthcare Australia along with key partners is launching a National Energy Efficiency Network to encourage strong connections and collaborative learning across Australian not-for-profit and community organisations. Starting with energy efficiency, NEEN will work to increase the resilience of Australian communities by encouraging open dialogue and collaboration around opportunities that maximise efficient resource use and promote positive, sustainable development into the future.

To support this outcome, NEEN secured funding from the Commonwealth Department of Industry, allowing members free access to specialist energy efficiency information, Opportunity Assessment and Business Case tools, members events and an online NEEN+ Learning Community forum.

Who can get involved?

The information and tools available to NEEN members have been tailored to support small to medium sized community organisations across Australia, however we welcome individuals and organisations from all industries, including:

  • Social Services
  • Churches & Parishes
  • Kindergartens
  • Aged Care
  • Health Care
  • Youth & Recreation
  • Arts & Cultural Centres
  • Not-for-Profit Agencies
  • Religious Congregations & Orders

A community initiative from Catholic Earthcare Australia

Catholic Earthcare Australia is the ecological agency for the Catholic Church in Australia. Our mission is to stimulate and support a conversion, amongst all people of good will, to a more ecological and sustainable way of being in the world. Catholic Earthcare initiatives (such as NEEN) combine environmental education, transformation and advocacy to effect change at an individual, organisational and community level.
